Constant pressures from external and internal sources bombard our daily lives—leaving people unable to cope. The rise of mental health has made it clear that we are in dire need of a solution to reduce stress.

Opportunity within meditation.

The App Store is full of meditation apps, bloated with excessive features—all of which over-complicate and defeat the purpose of mindfulness.

Not everyone is open to try.

To those who are new, unfamiliar, and especially uncomfortable with the spirituality that can be associated with mindfulness, meditation can seem intimidating and unappealing.

Men are struggling to ask for help.

When it comes to mental health, men are “too embarrassed” to speak about it. While “nearly 1 in 10 men experience some form of depression or anxiety, less than half seek treatment.

There’s a simpler solution.

Recent studies concluded that the consistent use of “mindfulness meditation worked as well as a standard drug for treating anxiety.

The mission: minimize the barrier of entry for men who may be resistant to meditation as a solution to their depression or anxiety.

Branding that reflected our mission was key. Minimal colours, calming imagery, and a name that encompasses the core values of meditation was integral.

Thus, Less was created.

Mindfulness at its core.

We wanted to build an app that embodied and demonstrated what meditation truly means—decluttering of the mind. In our case, decluttering needless functions and distractions.

Keeping it simple.

Thorough research and testing guided us in building a simple screen allowing the user to focus on one thing: the time left in their practice.

Getting started is easy.

Upon opening the app for the first time, the user is onboarded through a tutorial. Simple gestures make it easy for anyone to use, such as tapping and holding to pause and reset the timer.

Personalization for every user.

Additional settings can be found by swiping left, including themes that suit their personal preferences, a warm up timer, or reminder bells that help ground the user’s focus during their meditation.

Features that make sense.

Stats are available through Less+, including streaks, longest meditation session, and a graph with the last 7 days of meditation. Additional stats will be integrated.

Future integrations to come.

Other helpful features will be added to support users with their mindfulness goals. This includes notifications, widgets, and cross-platform use between Apple OS devices.

An iPhone with a notification and Apple Watch floating.

journey with Less.
